Roy Keane launched a bizarre tirade against Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere after our horrendous 2-1 defeat at home to Ostersunds FK.
Wilshere captained the side for the second time this season and his performance left for little to be desired in what was a pathetic display from the entire team.
The visitors raced into a two-goal lead before we even decided to mentally turn up, making the game a more uncomfortable night than some anticipated.
Arsene Wenger promised fans that complacency wouldn’t be an issue, but it seems the players didn’t get the memo.
While no Arsenal player came out of that near-crisis in a good light, Keane felt that our performance was symbolised by the fact that Wilshere wore the armband.
“Where do I start… I think Arsenal are a great example on how not to start a game of football. We can talk about being a shambles but they’re so slow out of the blocks – poor attitude,” the former Arsenal nemesis said on ITV.
“The manager summed it up. No energy, no desire, you’re looking for your senior players to lead by example.
“I always think, when Wilshere’s your captain, to me, probably the most overrated player on the planet.
“And they got lucky with the result at the end of it.”
At this point in his career – in whatever field that is – Keane is seriously becoming a caricature of himself. It seems he’s paid to make the most outrageous statement he can think of then providing some ‘analysis’.
His itch to make the headline is also often exacerbated by the little time he has to make an impact with ITV often only granted rights to show highlights of various competitions.
It’s becoming boring.
