The Spurs fan who threw a banana skin in the direction of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been banned from football for four years and fined £500 by the magistrate’s court, The Guardian reports.

57-year-old Averof Panteli told the courts that he did throw the banana, but did in no way mean to racially insult Aubameyang with that action.

The incident took place at the Emirates Stadium earlier this month in our 4-2 win against our north London rivals, specifically after Aubameyang netted the opening goal from the spot.

Our leading goal scorer celebrated in front of the travelling supporters, though he didn’t have much choice considering that he netted at their end.

It comes at a time where the conversation of racism is now being spoken about openly in this country denouncing the myth that it has been kicked out of football in this country.

Raheem Sterling has been leading the charge following his situation at Stamford Bridge, with the Manchester City man laying the blame squarely at the desk of the mainstream media.

Despite the fact that the Spurs fan has been reprimanded, it’s still a laughable punishment. Why four years? Does Averof suddenly become ‘a non-racist’ after that period?

If jail time isn’t applicable here, then a lifetime ban should’ve been imposed and his slap-on-the-wrist punishments like these which has caused this issue to continue.
