Theo Walcott acknowledges formation switch…

Theo Walcott is the latest player to acknowledge an upturn in our performances after switching back to our old system following the 3-1 win over FC Cologne in the Europa League.

Arsene Wenger replaced Rob Holding with Sead Kolasinac at half-time with the team trailing, and it worked wonders with an attacking trio of Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud working in tandem.

The 4-2-3-1 allows for another attacking player and it seems the players are more comfortable that system, regardless of how the switch to a 3-4-3 benefitted us last season.

Apart from the game against Bournemouth, Wenger has switched to a back four in every other game this season as he chased a win.

And it seems the players want a return to the old system.

“The manager changed the system in the second half and it seemed work a little bit better,” Walcott told Arsenal Player.

“We seemed to flow a lot more easier and we seemed to create a few more chances.

“We went back to the 4-3-3,” Walcott added.

“I like to make the runs to create space for other players and to stretch teams and it seemed to work in the second half especially.”
It seems only a matter of time before accepts that a switch back the old system suits our players best. Hopefully, our season will still be alive by the time he comes to such a conclusion.
