Arsene Wenger has backed Theo Walcott to prove his doubters wrong after the forward produced a solid display against Watford in our 3-1 victory on Saturday.

Walcott received endless criticism following our opening two games as we struggled to claim our first victory of the season, but his display at Vicarage Road was very encouraging.

The 27-year-old assisted Alexis Sanchez’s goal though it was his work rate which impressed many given Wenger’s scepticisms regarding Walcott’s defensive duty on the right-wing.

“I said before the season started that we will get a different Theo Walcott this year,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“If he can maintain that focus, that desire and that fighting attitude then he will have a great season.”

Walcott has finally accepted that he’s a wide-forward and it seems the England man feels he has a lot to prove.
