Respected journalist Jonathan Northcroft expects Arsene Wenger to win any potential boardroom battle and extend his contract on his own terms.
After etching his name into history by winning a 7th FA Cup, The Times reporter feels that all the cards are now in Wenger’s hands as to how the club moves forward.
Following our disastrous run in March, Ivan Gazidis held a fan’s forum in which he stated that the season would prove to be a “catalyst for change”.
Many have since speculated as to what those changes entail, though there have been strong rumours of an incoming director of football.
Wenger has publically dismissed that notion, and Northcroft feels Wenger will get his way.
“I think he feels vindicated by the last few weeks,” the journalist said.
“It depends on how hard those that want him to change are going to push it.
“I would expect him to pretty much come out as a victor tomorrow.”
Northcroft is essentially saying what many are thinking: Wenger is the boss at Arsenal Football Club.
He’s a manager who’s more powerful than figures above him, and remains the only coach in the world who can sign contracts as he pleases regardless of his performance.
Wenger will sign a new two-year deal following the board meeting, without any hint of stipulations for what constitutes success.
