Arsenal head coach Unai Emery promised the Gunners starlets that they will be given chances this season, though that doesn’t mean he’ll be any less demanding on them, the Islington Gazette reports.

We fielded two English teenagers in a Premier League game for the first time since 1998 with Reiss Wilson and Joe Willock given the nod by Emery.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles, though a little more experienced, is also a Hale End graduate and continues to deputise for Hector Bellerin at right-back.

All three were some of our best performers at Newcastle and Emery has promised more playing time for the starlets as he regards them as first-team options.

However, despite their tender experience, the Spaniard made it clear the demands will be the same for them as it is for their senior colleagues.

When asked to summarise the performance from the younger players, Emery said: Good.

“They are young, they need to get confidence, to get experience. But we need to be winning.

“We are helping them but pushing them and our demand is a very big demand.

“They need to do one process and sometimes it’s playing like today and sometimes it’s maybe starting in the bench.

“But above all, they are going to be with us. They deserved to be with us and to give them confidence can help us.”

Given the lack of match fitness from a number of first-team stars who’re recovering from their international excursion over the summer, the likes of Willock and Nelson will be required to hold the fort for a few weeks yet.

While we’re expected to win at home to Burnley next week, we face Liverpool and Spurs after that with the squad till taking its shape.

It’s going to be an interesting few weeks.
