Arsenal starlet Joe Willock revealed that the balance between freedom to play and tactical structure provided by Unai Emery allowed the youngsters to shine against Vorskla.

Willock started for the first time this season and in an opening 45 minutes in which we took the hosts apart, the 19-year-old found the net with a sensational effort.

Emile Smith Rowe and an Aaron Ramsey penalty completed the scoring in a game which also saw Emery hand three youngsters their debut.

Teenage trio Zech Medley, Charlie Gilmour and Bukayo Saka all came on and made an impression, with the latter making a keen impression with his sensational dribbling ability and speed.

“Arsenal has always been a club that’s played youngsters and given youngsters a chance,” the gleaming starlet told BT Sport.

“It was brilliant to see my teammates that I grew up with to have a chance to play alongside me and we all enjoyed it.

“Unai has always told us to be free and express ourselves and that this is our chance – but we have to know our jobs. It’s a good mixture and balance,” Willock added.

While giving those coming through our academy a chance was always part of our make-up as a club, those that continued to play always hit a glass ceiling in terms of their development.

Arsene Wenger had the wherewithal to usher them into the first-team, but after their honeymoon period was over, they never really made the next step.

Jack Wilshere, Hector Bellerin and Alex Iwobi all hit an impasse in terms of there development, something which cost Wilshere his Gunners future.

Under Emery, hopefully they get the tactical knowledge to continue to grow in the modern game.
