Arsene Wenger plays down importance of end Spurs’ run…

Arsene Wenger stopped short of claiming that the team would need added motivation of preventing Spurs from winning the league when we face them this weekend.

After our narrow victory against Leicester City which keeps our top four hopes alive, Wenger feels our own interests are enough to carry us through a game of such magnitude.

Spurs are four points behind Chelsea and are also the most in-form team in the league, a predicament which has us fans slightly nervous of our trip to White Hart Lane for the final time.

Given our tendency of not showing up for the big occasions, literally, anything could happen.

“We play for us…in life you work for your own achievements,” Wenger said as he played down the importance of halting Spurs.

“What is important is that we go there and try to win the game.”

Wenger has always been a manager intent on putting as little pressure as possible on his players ahead of a big game, so his answer isn’t a surprise.

It may be why we usually have bad records against specific teams or managers, given that we have a boss who refuses to stir the emotion of revenge in his team.

Chelsea took pride in ending Spurs’ title hopes last season, and so should we.
