Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has a message for the fans…

Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain reserved special praise for the travelling fans after our 2-1 win at Middlesbrough on Monday night.

Seven days after the team’s disastrous display at Crystal Palace, the Gunners faithful travelled in their numbers on a bank holiday Monday evening to one of the farthest trips in the Premier League.

It seems that the players are well aware of the feelings currently held by the fans, especially after the chants of “you’re not fit to wear the shirt” rang from the away end at Selhurst Park.

After the hard-fought three points, The Ox felt the need to address the fans and almost felt ashamed that the players still had that level of support despite their recent performances.

“In recent weeks it’s not gone well for us and to see our fans travel all the way here on a Monday night means everything for us,” the Ox told Sky Sports.

Asked if he felt the players didn’t deserve that level of support, the 23-year-old added: “Look, it’s a massive club and as players, it’s an honour to play for (Arsenal).

“To see them come all the way up here and support us through a tough time means everything and we need to keep fighting for them.”

While many may feel slightly suspicious regarding that statement coming from one of our most PR-savvy players after a narrow win, The Ox has proven that he’s one of the few players who understands what it means to play for Arsenal.

At the screening of the ‘Invincibles’ film screening in 2015, he was the only first-team player to show up and be in a room among Arsenal royalty.

He may well be going through a contract stalemate with the club, the Oxlade-Chamberlain has handled himself very well during these turbulent times.
