David Seaman urges fans to get back to basics…

Arsenal legend David Seaman has urged the fans to get behind the team next season after what was a toxic and divisive campaign for us.

The future of Arsene Wenger dominated the column inches each week with the club shying away from making an announcement while our season disintegrated.

Our form in February and March was nothing short of disastrous, crashing out of the Champions League in humiliating fashion while subsequently finishing outside the top four.

Wenger has since admitted that the uncertainty surrounding his future may have caused that environment, and Seaman wants that all put to bed now.

“I would say to them (the fans), support your team,” Seaman said.

“No matter what’s going on with the manager, the board, with transfer fees or whatever; on matchday, support your team.

“Trust me, negativity in the ground from the fans does not help whatsoever.”

Seaman might feel like fans have no choice but to park their differing rhetoric and get behind the team following Wenger’s contract extension.

However, the feeling among many is that the fractions in the stands are irreparable.

If we look back to Wenger’s last contract extension where he signed on for three more years in 2014, banners were unfurled months later after a 1-0 win at West Bromwich Albion.

Some will not stop until he’s gone.
