Arsene Wenger hints at favouring a 4-2-3-1 system…

Arsene Wenger hinted that he may revert to his usual 4-2-3-1 system despite having huge success with the 3-4-3 formation, after claiming that the team will perform better in the formation they’re used to.

Having suffered a number of defeats last spring, Wenger sprang a tactical surprise by moving to a back three at Middlesbrough, a decision which would have dramatical results.

We immediately went on a winning run, losing only the north London derby in our final 10 games of the season in all competitions.

It included wins against Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea as we secured a record 13th FA Cup win to make our campaign somewhat respectable.

However, for Wenger, the 4-2-3-1 system is the one the players are most comfortable with.

“What gives confidence to players is to play in a system they are used to,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“I moved to a 4-2-3-1 because we had players like Ozil who is not really a striker or a deep midfielder, but behind the striker.

“The whole system most of the time is to balance the different qualities of your players and to make it all work.”

Wenger did point at that he’d changed his system again towards the backend of last season, but the boss seemed to refer to it as a move designed for desperate measures.

We were under such pressure that the Frenchman had to demonstrate some form of adjustment to bring our poor run to a halt.

Would you welcome a switch back to a 4-2-3-1 or should we stick to the 3-4-3 system?
