Arsene Wenger speaks on Jamie Vardy…

Arsene Wenger was asked once again about the infamous deal which fell through last summer after we activated the release clause of Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.

It was supposed to be a straightforward deal from then on, but the 30-year-old decided to reject the move and extend his contract at the Kingpower Stadium instead.

Whether or not that decision backfired is up for debate with Vardy unable to recreate the season he enjoyed last year, and we haven’t exactly produced this season either.

However, for Wenger, there are no hard feelings.

“Transfers, successful or not successful are part of it,” Wenger told reporters ahead of our clash vs Leicester City.

“No, he was one of the strikers available. When you come to a big club you can’t guarantee that to anybody.”

That final statement is telling given that the rumours which emerged following Vardy’s decision were that the England man wasn’t sure of his place in the team.

With the likes of Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott already at the club, Vardy may have been seeking assurances about his position, something Wenger very rarely accepts.

Also, when you’re signing for Arsenal Football Club, one would imagine that you have enough self-belief to back yourself against those competing for your position.
