Bayern Munich are no longer confident of signing Alexis Sanchez this summer as they contemplate the finances involved in the deal, according to German expert Raphael Honigstein.

Alexis has yet to commit his future to the club despite having only 12 months to run on his current deal though he’s yet to express a desire to leave.

The 28-year-old recently claimed that his full focus is on the Confederations Cup and that his future is in his agent’s hands.

However, for Bayern, their hope of signing the Chilean is diminishing by the minute.

“I can tell you Bayern Munich are still struggling to get an agreement with him,” Honigstein said on ESPN FC.

“He’s asked for a lot of money which on its own Bayern could pay but they are worried about the knock-on effect on the wage structure.

“The noises out of Munich, and I spoke to somebody there today, is that it’s very complicated, verging on, I wouldn’t say impossible, but at the moment they are not as comfortable as they maybe were a couple of weeks ago.”

Indeed, Honigstein did report last week that Bayern felt confident of landing our No.7 given our determination to not sell to a rival.

Just why Bayern are negotiating a contract with Alexis without agreeing to a fee with us first is rather baffling, especially given that they seem to have baulked at our price.

From an Arsenal perspective, it is a positive for us that Alexis’ representatives are still in negotiations with us, which would suggest that there’s still hope of him staying.
