Ex-Arsenal Defender: Mesut Ozil “Wouldn’t Last Long” Under Mourinho With Current Attitude

Mikael Silvestre says Ozil must change to fit into Jose Mourinho’s potential plans…

Former Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre believes that Mesut Ozil wouldn’t survive under Jose Mourinho should he join Manchester United.

Reports emerged this week that Ozil was eyeing a reunion with Mourinho in January with his contract up in less than eight months.

Despite Wenger’s denial, the fact remains that the 29-year-old can walk for free next summer and if it’s his desire to join Man United, there’s nothing we can do about it.

However, for Silvestre, he doubts the eagerness on Mourinho’s side to add a player who can’t be interested in putting in the necessary defensive work.

“I think he would have to change his attitude,” Silvestre told beinSPORTS.

“I think it’s mainly when the team loses the ball.

“The first few seconds in reaction – that’s when the coaches want you to get up and try to recover as quickly as possible.

“And his transitions sometimes, he looks like ‘okay we lost the ball now and I’ve got to run back now because I’m Arsenal’, but sometimes it doesn’t look like he is interested, so at United, he wouldn’t last long – especially with Jose [Mourinho].”

Silvestre may well go down as Wenger’s worst ever signings, yet one cannot argue with his assessment on Ozil.

He’s a wizard on the ball, but he cannot be bothered off it when it comes to winning the ball back off the opposition.

That deficiency can be masked against weaker opponents, but it’s why we usually come up short in the biggest of games.
