Gary Neville remembers Pizzagate…

Gary Neville touched on the infamous ‘Pizzagate’ incident which took place in the tunnel at Old Trafford in 2005 as he previewed our visit to Old Trafford on Saturday.

Neville was present that day with tempers flaring in the tunnel after Manchester United ended our 49-game unbeaten run in controversial fashion.

The Man United legend claims that he, to this day, doesn’t know who threw the pizza at Sir Alex Ferguson – though he did mention that Cesc Fabregas was the most likely culprit.

“It gets built up now to be something like a mythical event, but really at the time it was something normal,” Neville recalled.

“I used to think that they were bad losers, every time they lost they seemed to not handle it particularly well.

“I don’t even know who threw the pizza, I know it’s been reported since that it was Fabregas. Good luck to him if he threw it.”

Given that he was 17 at the time, Fabregas displayed some guts to lob a pizza at the most feared boss in England and get away with it.

Then again, standing alongside the likes of Patrick Vieira and Sol Campbell will make anyone feel invincible.
