Mesut Ozil halts talk on his future…

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil refused to discuss his future in a recent interview, claiming that all his focus was on helping us get out of the rut we’re currently in.

Ozil is out of contract in 2018, though he and the club seem relaxed when discussing his future with the German barely linked with a move to another club this summer.

The 28-year-old has stated previously that he’s settled in London and reiterated the idea that he’ll resume talks with the club in the summer.

Ozil also weighed in on the debate about Arsene Wenger, calling for the boss to be shown more respect.

“At this stage, I’m not important and no other player is important, what’s important is the club,” Ozil said.

“We’ve got aims that we want to meet this season and there’s still lots for us to play for.”

On the current circus surrounding Wenger, Ozil said: “I’ve always said that he was the most important factor in me coming here. He’s given a lot for this club and I think he deserves respect for what he’s achieved.”

It seems rather telling that Ozil isn’t shy to insinuate that his future is tied in with that of Wenger’s, while Alexis states that his aim is to see the club showing ambition, regardless of who the manager is.

The German star is doing very little to kill the perception that he wants to maintain the current luxury he’s afforded at Arsenal and not have that put in jeopardy with the arrival of a new head coach.

Ozil is given the central role he craves while the playmaker is often offered a winter break during the most crucial part of the campaign each season.

A new manager will surely not offer that level of favouritism.
