Pep Guardiola was lost for words after being asked about Alexis Sanchez…

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was lost for words after being asked if he intends to go back in for Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window.

Man City didn’t hide their admiration for Alexis throughout the summer but were met with strong resistance from the club who were adamant that they would not sell.

That seemed to change in the final hours of the window, with Thomas Lemar’s decision to stay at Monaco proving to be the thorn in Alexis’ Man City dream.

Many may have felt that Guardiola would now wait a year and snap the Chilean up on a free, but he hasn’t ruled out a move in the January window.

“Good question,” Guardiola said to the Guardian’s Jamie Jackson.

“I don’t know, believe me. I don’t know what we are going to do.”

Paying a transfer fee for a player you can sign for free six months later might seem like an odd financial decision, but Manchester City are usually exempt from those norms.

Firstly, they have the resources to buy who they want irrespective of their contractual situation.

Secondly, Alexis Sanchez would be eligible for the Champions League and could give Manchester City a boost in their attempts to be crowned European champions.

Check out Pep’s reaction to being asked about Alexis Sanchez in the video above.
