Arsenal legend Robert Pires hinted that we’re in with a chance of signing Monaco wonder kid Kylian Mbappé with a host of clubs after the teenage sensation.

Mbappé burst onto the scene this calendar year, netting 26 times in all competitions as Monaco won Ligue 1 and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Leonardo Jardim’s side were considered the most exciting team in Europe last term, though it has led to some of the top clubs poaching their talents.

Bernardo Silva has already joined Manchester City, while Chelsea are rumoured to be close to signing midfield powerhouse Tiemoué Bakayoko.

For Wenger, however, his main target seems to be Mbappé and the boss has rather unusually made little attempt to keep that a secret.

There were reports of us having a €100m offer turned down earlier this month and with the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain circling, pulling off this deal will take something special.

For Pires, though, he has belief in the club to wrap up such deals.

“I always believe in Arsenal, I believe in this team, in this squad,” Pires told Copa90.

“I think they need one at the back, one midfielder and one striker.

After being pushed on our chances of signing Mbappé, the Gunners ambassador said: “I think everything is possible.

“Arsenal have a lot of money, I think they can spend a lot of money for Mbappé.

“I don’t what’s happening with Kylian Mbappé, but of course, everybody knows Mbappé. He’s very good, he’s very young but he needs to prove it again.”
