Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli lavishes praise on Alexis…

Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli has hinted that he may be interested in the Arsenal job should it become available this summer after stating that he’d relish the chance to work with Alexis Sanchez again.

Speaking ahead of his side’s Champions League tie at the Kinpower Stadium, Sampaoli labelled Alexis as one of the best forwards in the world and reminisced on their time together.

Sampaoli was the Chile boss from 2012-2016 and ended his reign by lifting the nation’s first major trophy as they won the Copa America on home soil.

Alexis netted the winning penalty on that night against Argentina, and Sampaoli wants to relive those moments again.

“Yes, it would be great to have the chance to one day coach Sanchez,” the Sevilla boss said.

“He’s a top, top player, one of the best forwards in the world I would say. We went to a World Cup together, and we won the Copa America as well.

“Irrespective of the team not going through the best patch of form at the moment, he is a player who can change that.”

While many may interpret these quotes as a ploy to sign Alexis, Sampaoli knows he’s at a club that cannot afford to sign players of the Chilean’s stature.

Sevilla are notoriously known as a club with a shrewd scouting network and one that eventually sells its star players for huge sums of money.

However, the former Chile boss is being considered by the Arsenal board as a potential successor to Wenger according to reports (via the Metro), and his relationship with Alexis may well give him the edge.
