Sunday Supplement Guest: Jack Wilshere Brought Spurs ‘Injury’ Chants On Himself

The Mirror’s Simon Mullock has his say on the Wilshere chants…

The classless chants from the Spurs fans towards Jack Wilshere as he lay stricken on the floor were brought on by himself, that’s the view of the Mirror’s Simon Mullock.

Bournemouth travelled to Spurs on Saturday afternoon and it was Wilshere’s first trip to White Hart Lane since his expletive-laden chants towards our rivals at the FA Cup parade.

It was a nightmare afternoon for the 25-year-old midfielder. Not only was he at fault for two of Spurs’ four goals, but Wilshere picked up yet another ankle injury.

With the Arsenal man in excruciating pain, the Spurs fans chanted: “Jack Wilshere, it’s happened again.”

For Simon Murray, that chant was a fair response to Wilshere’s taunts at the parade.

“I think he brought it on himself with those chants,” the journalist said on Sunday Supplement.

“I’m a believer of if you give it, then you’ve got to take it back sometimes.”

Putting the statement into context, it clearly doesn’t justify the Spurs’ chants towards Wilshere. The Arsenal man played up to the football rivalry when he goaded Spurs, making fun of an injured player has always been an unwritten rule.

If Bournemouth were to announce that Wilshere’s injury was indeed serious, then surely Mullock’s feelings on those chants would change?

Nevertheless, as Arsenal fans, we’ve never thought highly of that mob down the road and those chants proved exactly that.

Oh shut up. Like your lot would have been any different if it’d been the other way round. Except it wouldn’t have happened the other way round would it? When do you ever hear Spurs players swearing about Arsenal in public? If you want to talk classless, start with Jack Wilshere who started it all off in the first place. Professional? Hardly. Excruciating pain? No way, he just sat there.

Just been confirmed that he suffered a fracture to his fibula and will be out for months. You still think it’s fine to mock that?
