Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette has apologised for getting himself sent off in the final moments of our defeat at BATE Borisov as we look to claw back the deficit in the second leg.

The Frenchman swung an elbow at the defender who was tugging on to his shirt after cutting a frustrated figure during the game.

Lacazette saw one of his efforts correctly ruled out for offside in the second half, which could’ve only added to his frustration throughout the match.

His straight red means that he misses the return leg at the Emirates Stadium next week which isn’t ideal given our need for goals.

However, after noticing his error via a statement made on his Twitter page, Lacazette firmly believes the team will still go through.

“Letting the team down like that is the worst feeling,” the 27-year-old said on social media.

“I should have stayed calm but it’s not always easy… sorry. There are still 90 minutes to play and I believe that my teammates will make it to the next round.”

At his age, Lacazette shouldn’t have reacted like that regardless of how disappointing his night was with his absence now costing the team dearly.

We’re already short of genuine forward options and if the hosts defend at the Emirates as they did today, it’s gonna take some work to break them down.

Having said that, being able to call on a certain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang isn’t too shabby.
