Arsenal have finally confirmed one of football’s worse kept secrets that adidas will now become our kit manufacturer effective from next season.

Our five-year deal with Puma is set to expire in June and when talks of a renewal weren’t being leaked, it became apparent that Arsenal were looking for a new partner.

According to The Evening Standard, this deal is worth £300million over five years, doubling our previous deal with Puma. It equates to £60m per year, the third highest kid deal in history behind Manchester United’s deal with adidas, and Barcelona’s partnership with Nike.

For a club with a self-sustainable business model such as ourselves, maximising our commercial income is crucial to our basic ability to compete.

Ever since our move to the Emirates, matchday revenue has been the main source of income for the club and one they could hang their hat on given fans’ loyalty.

Our commercial income was always an aspect of the club many felt Ivan Gazidis and his team were falling short in, but it seems we’ve finally rectified those shortcomings.

This year alone, we’ve renewed our kit sponsorship with Fly Emirates, we’ve added a sleeve sponsorship with Visit Rwanda while also tieing up smaller agreements – such as the deal with Jay-Z’s streaming service, TIDAL.

Hopefully, this is the start of a new era.
