Arsene Wenger addresses deadline day drama…

Arsene Wenger has rubbished reports that Alexis Sanchez was close to joining Manchester City on deadline day, though he did admit the club was open to doing the deal had found a replacement.

It was reported that Alexis was the subject of a £60million bid on deadline day, which Arsenal accepted on the premise that we could get a deal done for Thomas Lemar.

Wenger also told beIN SPORTS that an offer was made for Lemar, but the Frenchman chose to stay which subsequently put a halt on both deals.

The boss also claimed that Alexis will now show 100% commitment to the club and that he doesn;t have a shadow of a doubt about the player’s contributions on the pitch.

“The player has chosen to stay at Monaco and you do not want to talk too much, you have to respect what happens in the negotiations,” Wenger said about Lemar.

When asked about what he expects from Alexis, the boss replied: “It’s difficult for me to talk about that because what I want from the player now is to focus on his career, on his season and on Arsenal football club.

“On the players’ side, I think it’s exactly the same. 100%, he is committed. I have no doubt about that.”

In all honesty, one wonders what weight Wenger’s words hold these days given how often he reneges on his various stances.

Alexis didn’t look like a “committed” player at Anfield, and if we see that kind of Alexis often enough, it will be a serious conundrum.
