Thomas Lemar rejected £92million move to Arsenal…

Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar rejected a deadline day move to Arsenal which would’ve been a British record fee of £92million, ESPN reports.

After spending months affirmatively stating that Alexis Sanchez wouldn’t be sold, Arsene Wenger sanctioned a deal with Manchester City days before the end of the window.

According to report, Man City agreed on a £60million fee, but we’d only approve a sale if a replacement was found on the final 24 hours of the window.

It was at this time that Wenger pulled out a big offer to sign Lemar, who’d clearly been available all summer had we made a big offer for the 21-year-old.

Monaco felt £92million was an acceptable fee, a club who’ve previous for selling big on deadline day, but Lemar didn’t want to move.

Looking at it objectively, it was a sensible decision for the Frenchman who’s clearly seen the erratic nature of our policy this summer.

Also, in a World Cup year, it would be very risky to make such a decision in such a short space of time.

Given that we could’ve moved for Lemar earlier this summer, he’s most likely also baffled by our transfer policy as much as us fans.

As the window drew to close, the summer of 2017 will go down as one to remember in terms of its shambolic nature.
