Arsene Wenger says we’ll be back in for Thomas Lemar…

Arsene Wenger confirmed to Telefoot that we agreed a €100million deal with Monaco for Thomas Lemar on deadline day, and stated that the club will go back in for him in the future.

After entertaining the idea of selling Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City, Wenger knew finding a player of high calibre would be the only feasible way to explain such a decision to the fans.

Lemar is a player we’ve been chasing all summer, though we were previously told he was an addition to the squad rather than an Alexis replacement.

Wenger said last week that the Lemar deal was dead since Monaco didn’t want to sell any more players, but the Ligue 1 side are known for accepting excessive offers on deadline day.

Rather unusually, Lemar was the one to turn the move down, a sad indictment on the waning draw of Arsene Wenger for French talents.

Wenger appeared on the French station during the international break, and a translation of his quotes on Lemar can be found below.

“€100m for Lemar? Yes, all true, I wanted him,” Wenger said.

“He decided to stay at Monaco.”

Wenger then added: “We will come back for him.”

On what attracted him to the 21-year-old, the boss said: “It is a player who has a huge availability around the ball, it is always available and it is interesting to see when the others have the ball. is there that one realizes that it is always ready to want the ball and is quite complete in the offensive and the defensive “.
