Arsenal legend Sol Campbell has called on Unai Emery to give Petr Cech at least a season to become accustomed to his philosophy with all eyes on the 36-year-old, beIN SPORTS reports.

Cech is coming under the microscope given his lack of comfort with the ball at his feet, a quality Emery insists his goalkeepers must have.

It’s a quality that led us fans to believe that Bernd Leno would start the season as the number one given his technical ability, but Cech has kept his jersey.

While his traditional goalkeeping skills have been steady, Cech must get more comfortable under pressure with the ball at his feet.

And for Campbell, he feels the boss must give him a season to prove his worth to Emery’s philosophy.

“I think everyone has to work to help each other,” Campbell said.

“And I think it’s a new system and it’s changing. It’s a part of football – a new manager comes in and wants to put pressure [on opposition].

“For me, if I was playing in that position, you need some time to kind of adjust, and that’s what it’s all about.

“If he’s been playing like that for a season, then the following season it doesn’t work, then that’s a different situation.”

Given that this is Cech’s last season, at least contractually, we’ll have to replace him sooner or later.
