Gunners Star Reveals Who’s The ‘Nutmeg King’ At Arsenal

Rob Holding waxes lyrical on Ozil’s nutmeg ability…

Arsenal defender Rob Holding has named Mesut Ozil as the squad’s ‘Nutmeg King’ and revealed that he has the first-hand experience of the German’s ability to embarrass an opponent.

Ozil is very neat in possession and we’ve seen him pop the ball through a defender’s legs in some of the biggest games, which makes it no surprise that he attempts it in training.

Holding may have been slightly star struck upon entering the Arsenal dressing room last summer, coming from Bolton who’d been relegated from the Championship to training alongside Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

“Mesut Ozil, I’ve been there a few times on the end of one,” Holding told Soccer AM when asked about the Nutmeg King at Arsenal.

“In them little 5v2 squares, he’s just given it the eyes, I’ve closed him down and it’s gone through my legs. You just hold your hands up.

“I get angry and rat about for a bit, but then you look back and think: ‘it is Mesut Ozil’.”

Ozil’s ability to produce these moments are not in question but is it enough to hand him a free role and demand little from him out of possession?
