Arsenal icon Thierry Henry has backed Alexandre Lacazette to hit the ground running this season following his record-breaking £52million move from Lyon.
Under pressure to deliver a major signing, Arsene Wenger sanctioned a club-record move for one of Europe’s most prolific strikers over the past few seasons.
Lacazette had netted 113 goals in all competitions for Lyon since the 2013/14 campaign, forging a reputation as a fierce marksman across Europe.
The 26-year-old will inevitably draw comparisons with Henry due to their nationality and goalscoring prowess, and the club legend gave him a glowing reference when discussing our title chances on Sky Sports.
“He’s a goal scorer – hands off,” Henry told Jamie Redknapp.
“He has a different game to Giroud, which I think is good because you need different types of strikers.
“I’m a big fan, he will score you goals, he did it in the French league.
“People might say ‘it’s a different league’, but he’s going to be with better players – with all due respect to Lyon. I back him to have a good season.”
The striker dilemma isn’t one many are now calling on Wenger to fix with such a signing, but there are other areas that remain an issue, mainly through the spine of the side.
We still lack a ball-winning midfielder we can rely on, one who’ll compliment Granit Xhaka and knows how to tread the line carefully.
Also, with Laurent Koscielny carrying a chronic achilles problem, we should be looking to add another centre-back to the squad.
