Mesut Ozil wants to see out his career at the club…
Arsenal star Mesut Ozil stated that he can see himself finishing his career at the club months after signing a new three-and-a-half-year deal, The Evening Standard reports.
Speaking at the launch of Unity, a partnership between Ozil and former Gunner Mathieu Flamini to sell environmentally friendly products, the German star touched on his long-term future.
Ozil turned 30 in October, entering the prime years of his career as a No.10, though given he started playing regularly since the age of 18 he may be slightly older in ‘football years.’
The former Real Madrid man has endured an indifferent start to the season, flourishing in some games and then getting dropped for others – with Unai Emery unprepared to comprise on his demands for intensity.
Having said that, Ozil is on a monstrous contract which he seals in October, becoming the second-highest paid player in the Premier League.
“Why not? I am still young, I am 30,” Ozil was quoted as saying.
“In football, everything is possible but I am really happy to play for a big club like Arsenal. I just enjoy it and I can imagine finishing my career at Arsenal.”
Ozil later claimed that he can see himself playing at the highest level until his late 30s, which indicates that retirement isn’t necessarily at the forefront of his mind just yet.
For the short-term, though, Ozil must convince Emery that he can become a reliable fixture in any set-up
