Mikel Arteta is looking for internal solutions…

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta responded to his team’s dreadful display against Fulham on Sunday but halting any talk of potentially reinforcing the squad in the upcoming January window, the Spaniard told the press.

Coming off the back of a cruel defeat to West Ham on Thursday and with the Gunners faithful looking for a response, we produced our worst performance of the campaign, squandering a chance to end 2023 at the summit of the Premier League.

Despite taking the lead inside four minutes, we subsequently were second to every ball, defended our box poorly, and didn’t have another shot on target for the rest of the game.

It was a stark contrast to our display at Craven Cottage last term, despite six outfield players remaining from the demolition job we dished out in March.

As the press search for answers from the boss, he refused to even entertain the upcoming January transfer window and is adamant that the solutions are internal.

“We need to improve,” Arteta said when asked how he intends to arrest the slump.

“We want to win games and in order to do that we have to improve with players, so that after 20 league games we have the chance to be the best in the league with these players.

“They are really good and we’re going to continue to go with them.”

Whether or not Arteta actually believes his comments are irrelevant, he has no choice but to make it work with the squad he’s assembled for large sums of money.

The Spaniard will be welcoming back several players in the second half of the campaign but it does seem like De Ja Vu with one sidelined player – our season rests on Thomas Partey’s fitness.

Arteta now has time to think and get down to work with his coaching staff with no Premier League games for the next three weeks.
