Paul Merson: Arsenal Need To Finish Outside The Top Four

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson believes that a finish outside the top four would be needed in order for us to see drastic changes at the club following a quiet summer.

Once again, it seems that Arsene Wenger will choose not to strengthen his squad while our rivals make big signings, a philosophy which has seen us go 12 years without winning the league.

Merson has been vocal in his criticism of our policies and as of yet, Wenger hasn’t proved him wrong.

“This might be the year that it does catch up with them,” Merson said about our top four ambitions.

“They might not get fourth and then after that, you never know, they’ll probably go on and win the league the next two years. It will be a wake-up call.”

It’s hard for fans to feel optimistic about the new campaign when we’re yet to see our problems addressed following a campaign in which we fell short of winning the league behind Leicester City.
