Arsenal full-back Sead Kolasinac accepts that his error cost us two points at Old Trafford on Wednesday, but the 25-year-old is thankful for the support he’s received from the team and Unai Emery, Sky Sports reports.
Kolasinac, moments after we took the lead through Alexandre Lacazette, had some sort of brain freeze in the penalty area which allowed Jesse Lingard to waltz in and tap home.
It robbed us of the chance to end a 12-year hoodoo of failing to win at Manchester United, though we can take some solace from our performance and the way we dominated the match.
For Kolasinac, though, he’s put his hands up in terms of his mistake, but spoke on the spirit in the dressing room and how his teammates and Emery settled his anxiety.
“It’s a good feeling coming into the dressing room like that,” he said about the spirit in the camp. “Especially after knowing you’ve made a mistake and that mistake has potentially cost us two points. It made me feel better.
“The manager told me in no uncertain terms not to get too down about it, and that did help me. Everyone in the team too, it wasn’t just the coaching staff.
“All the players came over and they consoled me and told me not to get too down about it, and it gives you belief and confidence. You notice then we’re a tight-knit team and I think it’s a positive.”
Emery did make it clear that mistakes are to be learned from, and one hopes that Kolasinac is as intense when defending our goal as he is when making forays forward.
He’s one of the most explosive full-backs when he’s attacking, which may have swayed Emery’s decision to switch to a back three, but we desperately need him to sharpen up defensively.
