Arsenal boss Unai Emery admitted that the squad needs surgery and is hoping for “three or four” new arrivals before the window slams shut next month, Arsenal Player reports.
The summer window has been very quiet for us with constant reports surfacing about our ‘limited budget’ and has been mainly dominated by rejected offers.
We’ve seen offers turned down for Wilfried Zaha, Kieran Tierney and William Saliba with the former duo’s clubs becoming rather irritated by our low-ball approaches.
The pressure has since been turned on by a set of fans who launched a campaign calling our owners’ intentions into question and their concerns are exacerbated by our lack of activity.
Unlike some of the comments we’ve heard from Arsene Wenger in the past who would often defend the lack of signings, Emery has admitted that team needs surgery and is expecting arrivals to strengthen a number of positions.
“We are talking with the patience and with the calm because we really want to sign players who can help us with a big performance, and also because we think in the team we have very good players and young players and we also need to take the best player in some positions,” Emery told the press.
“Really, I can say to our supporters that we are going to have a very good team with the players that are there now and also with three or four players who can help us in a few days.”
When asked about Josh Kroenke’s about the exciting signings the club are targetting, Emery doubled down on those predictions: “Yes. Really we are speaking about the big players and because we are starting thinking about our team and our squad now, and we have very good players and very good young players that can progress to take and get big performances with us.
“We are being very, very demanding and we are first speaking about the possibility to sign very big, very expensive players and the first player in our list is our first target.”
