Stephan Lichsteiner becomes the first signing of the Unai Emery era…

Arsenal have announced the signing of Stephan Lichsteiner from Juventus on a free transfer after the right-back rejected a contract from the Italian giants.

Talk has been rife in recent weeks that a move was nearing for Lichsteiner as Unai Emery starts to plans together to shape what he wants the team to resemble next season.

With reports suggesting that this summer’s budget is rather restricted given how significant outlay in January coupled with back-to-back seasons in the Europa League, this signing represents shrewd business.

Lichsteiner will provide us with much-needed experience at the back and also gives Hector Bellerin some competition in a position he’s held on his own for a few years.

The Switzerland captain made 34 appearances in all competitions for Juventus last season as he clinched his seventh scudetto in what was a hugely successful spell.

Lichsteiner also reached two Champions League finals with the Old Lady and performed sensationally as Max Allegri’s men knocked out Spurs last season.

We wish Lichsteiner good luck in Russia ahead of what will be an eventful season at Arsenal.
