BT Sport pundit Frank Lampard hailed the thriller between Arsenal and Man United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday as the best game he’s seen “in a long time”.

Jose Mourinho subjected us to our first league defeat at home since January, though he largely had his outstanding goalkeeper to thank as we pillared their goal.

David De Gea made 14 saves, a record since Opta started recording stats in 2004 while three defensive lapses in concentration allowed Man United to walk away with three points.

The turning point certainly came when the Spaniard made a ridiculous double-save at point-blank range, denying Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez to keep the Red Devils ahead.

“It’s the best game of football I’ve seen in a long time,” Lampard said on BT Sport.

“Sometimes, big teams can cancel each other out, but today you just saw two fantastic teams going at it.

“Two different styles: Man United, lethal, counter-attacking, fast football.

“Arsenal – great build-up, Ozil on the ball regularly creating lots of chances.”

It may have been exciting for the neutrals, but that’s not what most Arsenal fans want to hear. Internally, an inquest will no doubt occur as to why this happened.

It’s out fifth defeat already this season, more than the likes of West Brom and Burnley, and we’re now 15 points behind league leaders Manchester City.

If challenging for the league was the sole goal this campaign, we’re currently failing – miserably.
