Report: Ivan Gazidis’ Departure Saw New Regime Retract Aaron Ramsey Contract Offer

It seems Ivan Gazidis’ exit caused the offer to Aaron Ramsey to be retracted…
Raul Sanllehi and Unai Emery revised the contract offer that was on the table to Aaron Ramsey following Ivan Gazidis’ departure and decided to withdraw it, The Telegraph reports.
Gazidis announced in September that he was set to join AC Milan in this month and days later, it was heavily reported that the contract offer on the table for Ramsey to sign was retracted.
Ramsey has since made it clear that he isn’t aware as to why that was the case and that he was still awaiting an explanation given that he was ready to sign.
“Hopefully somebody will come up and tell me why,” the 27-year-old told reports.
“I’ll accept that if there’s a reason. We all know that the contract was taken off the table. I’m not sure exactly why because a few weeks before we sort of agreed and I was ready to sign.
According to the report, Ramsey was seen as an ally of Gazidis which doesn’t seem too farfetched with the former CEO known to have personal relationships with our players.
It was Gazidis who sought to tie the 27-year-old to a long-term contract which was seen as ‘lucrative’ – something the South African felt Ramsey was owed.
However, once he departed with the contract unsigned, the club’s new executive team along with Unai Emery felt Ramsey didn’t warrant that deal.
One has to commend the swiftness in which Raul Sanllehi and his team have acted to take a decision that wasn’t necessarily going to be popular.
Also, Ramsey’s demotion from the first XI has given this report further credence, with the Welshman yet to start a league game since early September.
It now seems as though, after more than a decade at the club, Ramsey will depart the club on a free.
